01Why keep a decision journal?
Because memory cheats. Once you know how something turned out, it feels like you saw it coming all along. Psychologists have shown this again and again since the 1970s (it's called hindsight bias). The only version of your thinking that can't be rewritten is the one you wrote down before the result came in. Daniel Kahneman, who won the Nobel Prize for his work on judgment, called a decision journal one of the best cheap tools for getting better at deciding.
02Does it really work?
The research says yes. In Philip Tetlock's forecasting studies, people who wrote down predictions with a confidence level, then checked the results, got noticeably better at knowing when they were right. Reviewing decisions apart from their outcomes also helps you keep good habits that had bad luck, instead of copying whatever happened to work once.
03Will Bivio tell me what to decide?
No. It doesn't grade your choices or hand out advice. It records what you thought, brings it back when the answer is in, and lets you see your own track record clearly. The deciding stays with you.
04How is this different from a notes app?
Notes sit there. Bivio comes back. You record what you expect to happen, and on the date you chose, Bivio returns and asks what actually happened. That return trip is the whole idea.
05How does Smart Capture work?
Say the decision out loud, however it comes out. Bivio sorts your words into a clean record: the decision, what you expect, when to check back, how sure you are. You read it over before anything is saved. It usually takes about half a minute.
06What is a Lens?
A question, never a verdict. If your wording sounds like a familiar thinking trap, say sunk cost or status quo, Bivio may offer one question worth a moment before you commit. Keep it with the decision or dismiss it. It never blocks you and never claims to know your mind.
07What are Patterns?
Over time, your closed loops start to show things. Maybe your calls made under stress go sideways more often. Maybe you feel most sure late at night, and those are the ones you revise. Bivio only shows a pattern when it has repeated across several finished loops, and it presents it as something to consider, never as a fact about you.
08How private is my record?
A decision journal only works if you can be fully honest in it, so privacy comes first. Your entries are encrypted before they're stored. The recovery key that unlocks them stays with you, not with us. Decisions you mark as private also hide their text in lists and notifications.
09Does anything leave my phone?
When you use Smart Capture or a Lens, the text needed for that one request is sent securely for processing. Your saved record stays encrypted. Bivio doesn't sell data, build ad profiles, or train on your decisions.
10How many decisions before it's useful?
One. The first time a loop comes back, you see what you thought next to what happened, and that's usually the moment it clicks. Patterns need more material, typically a dozen or so finished loops.
11What kinds of decisions belong here?
Anything where you'll eventually know how it went. A job offer, a move, a purchase you're unsure about, a health routine, a hard conversation. Small repeating decisions often teach the most because they close quickly.
12How much time does it take?
About thirty seconds to record a decision, a couple of minutes to review one when it returns. Bivio asks on the date you picked. There are no streaks and nothing to fall behind on.
